Wheels For Freddy – Episodes 19 & 20

This episode deals with Freddy breaking his leg and having to get around in a wheelchair. Since the Land of I forest is similar to a park in many respects, many problems arise.

The story unfolds with Freddy, Kitzy Kat, Chad and Gabriel playing PILOT with Chad's airplanes. Chad has on a pilot's hat and a white scarf. Freddy has on a big silk scarf and stretches his arms out like wings. Kitzy Kat has on a Superman costume and a mask. Gabriel has on aviator sunglasses.

The four friends are up on a platform tree house that they have built. The tree house has wide steps going up so Freddy and Kitzy Kat can climb the tree. The steps look a little rickety.

The tree house has a sign that reads- "DO NOT ENTER – PRIVATE TREE HOUSE" attached to the tree trunk.

Abigail flies by and Chad admires her flying skills. She scoffs at their signs as she zips by. The boys turn their conversation to Chad turning into a butterfly someday. Freddy is sad that he will never fly. Kitzy Kat would rather have superpowers like Superman and be a hero. He'd rather fly with a cape than with wings. The friends encourage Freddy by telling him that he has other special abilities, like his ability to cook and help Cyclic with mechanical stuff. Freddy seems satisfied with the praise of his other skills.

They all decide to go down to the picnic area and play ZOOM. (A game where they all are pilots and fly airplanes.) Freddy starts down the ladder and suddenly slips. He falls with a thud to the bottom of the tree! Gabriel flies to his rescue. Kitzy Kat jumps down and lands on his feet. Chad crawls down from the tree as fast as he can. Freddy is moaning about his leg. Sure enough, it is broken.

Next, we see Freddy in a wheelchair, his leg in a cast. The wheelchair is made of wood with big wheels. He can get around on the FLAT grassy areas only. The friends rally about to try and make his life more comfortable, but it is hard. There are no ramps or smooth paths in the Land of I. Freddy is big and it takes a lot of effort to push him around. He is downcast when his friends play ZOOM and he can't run with them.

His friends soon realize that they are leaving Freddy out of everyday events because it is difficult for them to remember that he can't do everything that he used to. They finally realize that they must make allowances for Freddy's handicap, instead of thinking that Freddy will just fit in and ask for help if he needs it. They begin to understand a whole new area called DISABILITY that they had never really considered before. They rally to the wheelchair-bound Freddy.

Cyclic builds a ramp leading into Freddy's home and motorizes the wheelchair. Chad, Jotasha, and the Angels clean up all the twigs and stones that might interfere with the forward movement of his chair. Kitzy Kat finds a perfect pair of crutches to fit Freddy so he can get from the wheelchair to his bed. Grampa C makes him an "itch scratcher" to scratch beneath his cast. They all contribute food for him and help in his home.

Moral and Value for Episodes 19 & 20 - Wheels for Freddy -
None of the characters fully realized until Freddy broke his leg, just how helpless a handicap can make someone feel. It's a good lesson for all of the Land of I dwellers. The little friends also realize how Grampa must feel, stuck home in his tree house all the time because his arthritis prevents him from getting around as well as he used to. They pledge to be more helpful to him. Especially Chad.
