Beauty Is As Beauty Does – Episodes 5 & 6
Episode 5
Kitzy Kat has been given a lot of attention and understanding as he learns the rules of fitting within the community. However, he still remains ill-mannered, critical and quick to run away if things don't go his way. He also has grown quite handsome with Jotasha's loving care and praise and has begun to act rather stuck-up. He thinks he's the cat's meow. Jotasha makes him a beautiful collar that sparkles in the sun. By accident it falls off and Freddy steps on it-- ruining it. Kitzy Kat calls Freddy a clumsy fool! Freddy is devastated and goes into a funk of depression. The Land of I friends are horrified by Kitzy Kat's thoughtless name-calling. Chad tries to explain to Kitzy Kat that a collar can be replaced, but a friendship can't. Cyclic jumps to Freddy's defense accusing Jotasha of coddling the cat. His rebuke hurts Jotasha's feelings. All the friends end up arguing.
Problems are resolved when Kitzy Kat realizes that he has hurt the very people who cared enough to give him unconditional love and acceptance. While he's out in the forest, he is reminded of his sad existence when he has to sleep out in the cool night air. He doesn't make it too difficult for Cyclic and Freddy to locate him. He apologizes to all of his new friends by singing an eloquent song about the various ways that each one of them has made him feel special and important. His apology to Freddy is especially touching.
Episode 6
Next the angel twins have a misunderstanding. Abigail has made beautifying the Land of I bridge her contribution to enhance the Community Park. She has planned a beautiful walking flower garden alongside the edges of the bridge. She begins planting lovely bunches of flowers in the flower boxes that Cyclic and Freddy have built. Gabriel is assisting her with the beautification project.
Chad wants Gabriel to play with him and to show him some flying techniques. Gabriel is really enjoying working to make the bridge a pretty place for all of them, but doesn't tell that to his buddy Chad. Instead he complains in a sad voice that he has to help his sister.
Abigail overhears and tells Gabriel she'd rather plant the flowers herself, and for Gabriel and Chad to get lost! Gabriel goes off with Chad, but realizes that he has hurt his twin, and just as importantly, has hurt himself, because he loves working with flowers too.
Gabriel confesses to Chad that he loves flowers and he feels special to have been contributing to the welfare of the community. He and Chad go back to the bridge and ask Abigail if they can help. She sees that they are both contrite and embarrassed and allows them to help her. Gabriel and Chad learn that it is important to finish a job that you start and that every chore can be fun, especially one that you secretly love. They also learned that completing a project for the joy and benefit of others brings a special kind of "feel good" to the heart.
Moral and Value for Episodes 5& 6 - Beauty Is As Beauty Does-
These episodes have multiple purposes. One is to show appreciation to others by returning their compliments, smiles and kindness. It takes a thoughtful person to show support and understanding to others, so work hard to be a thoughtful person too. Another lesson is to try and remember to think before speaking harshly because someone might get their feelings hurt. It's hard to take back words once they've been said. Another lesson portrayed in this episode is not to be afraid to enjoy doing what you love to do just because others may think less of you. (They usually don't.) Chad ends up liking to plant flowers almost as much as Gabriel. Gabriel also realizes that he would have been responsible for cheating Chad of the learning experience of working with someone with as "green a thumb" as Abigail's.
